Reason: I think it's unfortunate that people have found themselves in such unstable and stressful/dangerous living conditions. The ordinance is a necessary, stop-gap, harm-reduction one that will hopefully be unnecessary in the future. I hope we can transition away from this aggressive capitalist economy to a more equitable socialist one. Everyone should have a safe, stable place to call home.
FOR A FAIR POLICE CONTRACT THAT SERVES THE PUBLIC
Reason: This is a great idea! Police are supposed to protect the public - not scare the shit out them. It’s past time the individuals should be held accountable for their actions. There should be some reform with the hiring and training process as well to avoid further incidents.
OREGON DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR THE PEOPLE
Reason: Here are my responses to each point above. (1) Absolutely - the fact that it is an issue in the first place is appalling (2) Bullying is definitely a big issue, but overly harsh punishment won’t solve the problem (3) When the mental health condition is the route cause of the offense, one or more doctors should be involved/consulted in the decision. (4) There are too many prisons and I think corporate prisons should be shut down - there is too much abuse of power in these cages. The psychological effects of living in these conditions and then trying to “be normal” after can feel like an insurmountable hurdle. (5) Everyone should be accountable for their actions! (6) We need to help people in vulnerable situations (especially if they want to transition to a more stable or health lifestyle.
TENANT PROTECTION ORDINANCE
Reason: Here are my responses to each point above. (1) I believe that money and power tend to lead to corruption and the consolidation of Portland's rental market into the hands of a few larger management companies is a net negative for renters. With corporate personhood, individuals have been able to distance themselves from their decisions, no matter how destructive the repercussions. Without regulations, I believe people will use ambiguity in the laws to exploit the under-privledged. The loopholes should be closed as we transition away from this aggressive capitalist economy to a more equitable socialist one. (2) Have you contacted any universities/colleges to see if they would want to collaborate on building this database? They may be interested in helping. (3) Everyone should be accountable for their actions! (4) Everyone should have access to legal aid, not just in cases where they’ve been charged with a criminal offenses. (5) Everyone should have a safe, stable place to call home.
UP NOW! UNIVERSAL PRESCHOOL IN MULTNOMAH COUNTY
Reason: Everyone deserves a well-rounded and engaging education -- it’s a basic right. I think child-care in general should also be accessible for any family.
CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM
Reason: I received an email about a match cap being lowered to $200k. I think that $400k seems excessive for such a small campaign. In order to avoid the financial disclosure guidelines, I’ll be spending less than the $750 maximum allowed. I will be spending a lot of my spare time, but that’s about it.
Reason: I feel like many private banks are corrupt and have put profit over people's well-being. I hope this will avoid such corruption and benefit the public.
Reason: (I littereally said, "YEEEEES!") This is so obvious! (See Patriot Act: Why Your Internet Sucks) The only reason that ISPs exist anymore is because of rent-seeking, crony capitalists.
COMMUNITY BENEFITS AGREEMENT (CBA) FOR THE SUPERFUND CLEAN-UP OF THE WILLAMETTE RIVER
