Reason: Houseless is NOT a crime and does not deserve a criminal justice approach. We should take a Housing First approach to resolving houselessness. I've made reference to this in my campaign platform and numerous materials to supporters.
FOR A FAIR POLICE CONTRACT THAT SERVES THE PUBLIC
Reason: I support creating an Independent Police Review board with authority to compel officer testimony, recommend disciplinary actions, and consider deadly force incidents. I favor making dismissing officers easier, expanding the scope of officer interrogations, lodging complaints permanently in officer files, increasing transparency in record-keeping and distribution, drug testing officers after use-of-force incidents, ending the program of Retire/Rehire and the Extra Employment program, and the other changes listed above. I’m committed to strong community and public participation and input into the contracting process for the new police contract.
OREGON DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR THE PEOPLE
Reason: I have taken public positions in support of decriminalizing houselessness, sex work and drug use. Those positions are all clearly stated in my campaign platform dealing with taking a public well-being approach to social and public health issues rather than a criminal justice approach. TENANT PROTECTION ORDINANCE
Reason: I support increasing tenant protections as spelled out here and elsewhere.
UP NOW! UNIVERSAL PRESCHOOL IN MULTNOMAH COUNTY
Reason: I've read through this plan and like it. Yes, this sounds good to me. Let's do it!
CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM
Reason: Absolutely! I've been on this bandwagon for a long time. Great news! The Oregon Supreme Court just ruled that laws limiting campaign financing are legal in Oregon! Corporations and wealthy donors pour tens of thousands of dollars into local and state races, making it difficult for everyday Oregonians to compete and have our voices heard. This is a great day for Portlanders, Oregonians and our planet as this ruling will help us start to get more traction in putting the needs of people and the planet before corporate interests.
Reason: A public bank is one of the cornerstones of my campaign. I am spending a lot of time, energy and money educating voters about the potential benefits of a public bank and have some novel ideas for ways a public bank could help address housing equity and affordability. https://portland2020vision.org/bank
Reason: Yes, definately! My support for municipal broadband is laid out in my platform page on public services at https://portland2020vision.org/parks
COMMUNITY BENEFITS AGREEMENT (CBA) FOR THE SUPERFUND CLEAN-UP OF THE WILLAMETTE RIVER
Reason: After reading through the associated materials, this is clearly in line with my values and other positions and something I feel good about supporting.
