DECRIMINALIZE HOUSELESSNESS

Voting: Yes

Reason: I will defend people’s right to rest at every turn. Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. People cannot be denied a right to rest. The city’s sit-lie ordinance was rightly found unconstitutional. I’ll fight to make sure federal courts don’t overturn the ruling. My housing and homeless services plan will serve people living outdoors with the support they need to live free from harassment and with dignity. As Metro Councilor, I led the effort to pass the region’s first affordable housing initiative--which will fund my commitment to complete 2000 permanent supportive housing units. As Metro Councilor and member of the Here Together Coalition, I voted to refer the nation’s first ever regional homeless services initiative to our May ballot. Please join me in advocating and helping to pass the Homeless Service Initiative.

FOR A FAIR POLICE CONTRACT THAT SERVES THE PUBLIC

Voting: Yes

Reason: The best solutions are the ones that include those who have lived experience. I’ll fight for oversight, accountability, an ability to file complaints, a city free from harassment, abuse, threatening behavior and violence toward our communities of color particularly our black, brown, and immigrant communities.

OREGON DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR THE PEOPLE

Voting: Yes

Reason: I will publicly speak out with the Oregon District Attorney for the People campaign and use the power of my position at the city to support their agenda. When I was a teenager, my father lost his life to mental illness and substance use disorder. I know first-hand that criminalization and aggressive prosecution only exacerbate the conditions that require support for people who are our family, friends and neighbors.

TENANT PROTECTION ORDINANCE

Voting: Yes

Reason: I will support these efforts. As Gretchen Kafoury’s Housing Policy Advisor, I co-led the effort to force landlords to accept Section 8 vouchers. Moreover, I’ll increase short and long term vouchers to help more people access the housing that they need.

UP NOW! UNIVERSAL PRESCHOOL IN MULTNOMAH COUNTY

Voting: Yes

Reason: Parents need help. I’ll publicly endorse and speak out about this plan as I am meeting with Portlanders during my campaign. Children that get the support they need have much more success in life. That is why I successfully won parental leave for all Metro Employees last year.

CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM

Voting: Yes

Reason: I support the strictest limits on campaign finance.

MUNICIPAL BANK

Voting: Yes

Reason: As a life-ling affordable housing advocate, I’ve seen the wasteful ways that financing structures eat up dollars that would otherwise fund more housing. Housing and other city projects should not be the equivalent of a millionaire employment act. I will embrace exploring the ideas behind this concept.

MUNICIPAL BROADBAND

Voting: Yes

Reason: I strongly support this strategy. It provides equitable access, makes a lot of sense for our overall economy, and supports our unique culture that makes Portland special.

COMMUNITY BENEFITS AGREEMENT (CBA) FOR THE SUPERFUND CLEAN-UP OF THE WILLAMETTE RIVER

Voting: Yes

Reason: This land was purchased by Metro in 1996 and has been unaddressed since. I was a leader in passing Metro’s $475 Million measure last year. It’s time we demand resources to support the goals of the Coalition. They best reflect our community priorities and I am ready to champion this work at Metro, and to bring the city’s resources to the table as commissioner. My last conversation with the late Nick Fish was to agree to work together to support the Coalition’s work and to create a community vision and resource plan for Willamette Cove.
