DECRIMINALIZE HOUSELESSNESS

Voting: Yes

Reason: Criminalizing this activity costs precious money to enforce that would better be served providing shelter and permanent housing.

FOR A FAIR POLICE CONTRACT THAT SERVES THE PUBLIC

Voting: Yes

Reason: If we protect bad behavior then why should we expect it to stop? Accountability for all is healthy.

OREGON DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR THE PEOPLE

Voting: Yes

Reason: We must believe that people, all people, should not be defined by their worst day. Instead of paying to jail people who make mistakes, people who are racially profiled, or those experiencing mental health conditions, lets use that money to provide opportunities for reform.

TENANT PROTECTION ORDINANCE

Voting: No

Reason: I know housing markets very well. I know the places where housing policy works and where it does not. I believe unequivocally that 8-9% vacancy will do more for tenants rights than these goals will. These regulations encourage exiting the rental market for landlords which will thereby lower vacancy rates and further harm tenants. I know that places with robust tenant rights, strict land use regulations have worse housing markets and greater inequality (think SF and NY) than places with lax land use regulations and low tenant protections (think Tokyo, Singapore, Vienna, and Houston). Treating the symptoms of a broken housing market while ignoring the disease, i.e. strict land use laws, building regulations that prohibit construction of low income housing, will do little to fix the problem and in this case may actually make it harder.

UP NOW! UNIVERSAL PRESCHOOL IN MULTNOMAH COUNTY

Voting: Yes

Reason: As a father of two young boys I have a lot of experience with the high costs of daycare. I believe just like public school that we should all contribute, so I would not stop at taxing only the rich, we should all pitch in to support the future. If you are interested I have other strategies that could be very effective at reducing costs and increasing pay.

CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM

Voting: Yes

Reason: As an OAE certified candidate I believe limiting contributions serves the side goal of requiring broader outreach to the community which is very beneficial.

MUNICIPAL BANK

Voting: Yes

Reason: I agree with this idea fully, I just don't want the idea to over-promise and under-deliver.

MUNICIPAL BROADBAND

Voting: No

Reason: If I had to answer this question 10 years ago I would say yes, unequivically. This technology is no longer modern and I fully expect 5G to displace demand for fiber optic internet. If we did this now I believe we will be on the hook for a large infrastructure build out that is not used. Perhaps focus on 5G build out.

COMMUNITY BENEFITS AGREEMENT (CBA) FOR THE SUPERFUND CLEAN-UP OF THE WILLAMETTE RIVER

Voting: Yes

Reason: We should always put environmental stewardship a the top of our list, including dealing with a bad history of environmental stewardship.

Filed Under: CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM-yes, COMMUNITY BENEFITS AGREEMENT (CBA) FOR THE SUPERFUND CLEAN-UP OF THE WILLAMETTE RIVER-yes, DECRIMINALIZE HOUSELESSNESS - yes, FOR A FAIR POLICE CONTRACT THAT SERVES THE PUBLIC -yes, MUNICIPAL BANK -yes, MUNICIPAL BROADBAND -no, OREGON DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR THE PEOPLE-yes, TENANT PROTECTION ORDINANCE-no, UP NOW! UNIVERSAL PRESCHOOL IN MULTNOMAH COUNTY-yes
